On 1 July 2026, from 12:30 to 14:30, Helmut Brandstätter will host the kick-off event of a new high-level debate series on De-risking European Institutions, with a first focus on Sovereign Cloud. The discussion will address Europe’s growing dependence on foreign technology infrastructure, including cloud services, critical software and financial systems, and the risks this creates for European democracy, security and strategic autonomy.

The event will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, local governments and civil society to explore practical solutions for protecting European institutions and data. In particular, it will examine how European cloud solutions and EU legislation can help level the playing field, strengthen fair competition, reduce exposure to manipulation, espionage and coercion, and safeguard the integrity of Europe’s democratic systems.
